When filling your storage boxes or totes, be careful not to overfill them or make them too heavy to carry. Heavy cardboard boxes can break and overfilled totes or boxes can be too difficult to carry. Try to pack similar items together to make things easier when unpacking. When packing breakable items, utilize packing peanuts or bubble wrap to prevent damage and clearly label the boxes as fragile. If you stack boxes on top of each other, always put the heaviest on the bottom and the lightest on top.

Lastly, it is good practice to store the largest items like furniture into self storage units first, then bring in boxes and smaller items. If you're storing wood furniture, treat it with furniture polish before covering it to add a bit of extra protection.
